April 17. The plan is to have a group
of mopeds numbering over 674 riding en masse in a grid formation. The
event will be videotaped, and everyone must wear a number. The record
is only for 49cc bikes, so we will be having the 49cc ride in the front
of the pack, so counting will be easier. Larger scooters certainly are
welcome. The originators of this
event, that started the facebook page, had trouble getting permission
from the UW Madison to have the event on UW property. The
requirements could not be met in the short time left, so an alternate
location needed to be found. I suggested doing it here at Scooter
Therapy, and they said OK. Philip from Genuine
Scooter Company will be here with the new four stroke Stella, and we
will be giving away a new Genuine Roughhouse 49cc moped to a
participant, if indeed we break the record. Any questions or
suggestions, please email me at scootert@chorus.net.
Please try to get here early, if we ride at
1:00, there will be some set up time needed before that. We will have
runner style numbers to pin on your shirt. If anyone wants to display
their machine, we will have a peoples
choice bike show with several categories. We also have many door prizes
to be given away.
We have never attempted this before and
have no idea what to expect as far as turnout is concerned.
I have been contacted by riders in Milwaukee, Green Bay, Kenosha,
Racine, and Chicago. There are several parking lots in the
immediate area for scooters. Not much parking for Automobiles.
The plan is to leave at 1:00 North to East Johnson Street. East to
First Street, then right turn to East Washington. Pull into the Fiore
Shopping Center lot to regroup, then head West on East Washington
towards the Capitol Square. The film crew will be on East
Washington. We then make our way back to Scooter Therapy for the
bike show awards, and hopefully someone will win a new Roughhouse
scooter.
Some of my friends are great stunt
riders on scooters, and if we can get an area clear there may be an
awesome show.
Hope you can make it, all size scooters are welcome.
